$650,000 awarded for 3 programs

August 27th, 2007 by nwhome

The New York State Housing Trust Fund Corporation recently announced that NeighborWorks Home Resources will be receiving $650,000 for three housing programs.

$300,000 in HOME funding will support a home repair program for the Rt. 16/Interstate 86 Corridor.  Approximately 14 single-family, owner-occupied houses will receive rehab that corrects a code problem, solves a health and safety issue, or extends the useful life of the home.  Energy efficiency and lead hazard reduction will be addressed as part of the program.  We are able to match this HOME grant with funding from a NYS Affordable Housing Corp. grant.

A $300,000 HOME grant will fund a homeownership program to help first-time homebuyers purchase single-family homes throughout Cattaraugus County.  About 15 customers will be assisted with down payment and closing costs assistance, in addition to home repair.

$50,000 is available from the RESTORE program for emergency repairs for senior homeowners.  At least one of the homeowners must be 60 years of age or older.  The maximum funding per household is $5,000.  We expect to help 15 senior homeowners will emergency repairs.  Some examples of emergency repairs include fixing a leaking roof, repairing a broken furnace, or correcting a safety hazard.

What is National NeighborWorks Week?
National NeighborWorks(R) Week — now in its 24th year — is a celebration of the accomplishments of the NeighborWorks network and an opportunity to increase the network’s visibility and build partnerships. It will be held from June 2-9, 2007.During NeighborWorks Week, local NeighborWorks (R) organizations mobilize tens of thousands of volunteers, businesspeople, neighbors, friends, and local and national elected and civic leaders in a week of neighborhood change and awareness. They rehab and repair homes, paint and landscape properties, conduct neighborhood tours, recognize successful partnerships, and host events that educate, train and inform. In addition, NeighborWorks(R) organizations are eligible for grants and technical assistance to support their NeighborWorks(R) Week activities.

The Home Depot Foundation is the national home improvement sponsor of National NeighborWorks(R) Week 2006, featuring hundreds of events across the country. In addition, the foundation sponsored major volunteer events in 10 cities.
